How Employers Can Maximize Productivity and Engagement with a Hybrid Workforce

At Shaw Search Partners, as experts in corporate recruiting, we are well aware that a hybrid workforce model, meaning employees are working both remotely and in-office, has become the norm for most companies during the past year and a half. Recent technology, most notably Zoom, has allowed many companies to successfully carry out a hybrid workplace while still taking care of their everyday business. Although some employees prefer this method of working, others found themselves having difficulties adjusting to their new routine, while trying to find ways to remain productive, engaged and efficient in their work duties. Regardless of which of these categories you fall into, today’s Shaw Search Partners’ blog post features a short list of ways you can maximize your productivity and engagement while working from home! After all, we predict hybrid work forces will continue to be the norm long after the pandemic is over.

Set a morning routine & stick to it

Wake up at the same time you would if you were going into the office for the day. Complete your same morning routine (such as showering, brushing your teeth, eating breakfast and getting dressed). This will kick start your productivity by getting your brain working before “work” begins. Setting a morning routine allows you to wake up and prepare for the day ahead, both mentally and physically - as opposed to just rolling out of bed and signing onto your computer. Melissa Shaw, founder of Shaw Search Partners and mother of two, says this is a particularly important tip for working mothers from home!

Maintain a clean and designated workspace

Make sure you have a desk area, or table, that you can rely on as your workspace each day. This will allow you a space that is solely dedicated to work and enforce the necessary boundary between “work” and “home” that our experts in corporate recruiting so strongly recommend in order to optimize efficiency.

Take breaks

Just as you would in the office, make sure to take breaks. Take a walk. Eat lunch. Grab a water, or a coffee. Breaks are key to refueling your energy and making sure you remain productive throughout your day!

Write down daily/weekly tasks and goals

Whether it is on a sticky note, white board, or the notes app on your phone, make sure to keep a running list of to-do’s for the week ahead. Organization is key! This way you have a sense of what is coming up and when. Keeping a list of tasks and goals is a great way to visualize what needs to be done - and helps you to stay on target while working away from the office.

Know when to wrap up for the day

A lot of times employees who are working from home do not know when to stop working for the day and leave the remaining tasks for the next day. Just as you would start wrapping up your day at 5pm in the office, Shaw Search Partners advises you to make sure to do this at home as well. This will help to balance your work and home life and avoid burnout.
