Five Ways To Spring Clean Your Career

Spring is only a few weeks away and at Shaw Search Partners, we can’t wait! As longer days and warmer months approach, many of us shake off the dusty doldrums of winter and welcome the newness of Spring.

As your thoughts shift to Spring cleaning, we ask you to consider Spring cleaning your career! Now is as good a time as any to really polish your professional life.  As experts in RI Corporate recruiting and MA corporate recruiting, we invite you to scrub away that which does not serve you and head into this new season shiny and new!

Inbox zero is a tall goal. Not-so-urgent daily emails pile up like dust balls. Take a designated amount of time and finally go through all those messages you’ve “kept as new.” Delete where you can and decide to respond to the ones you’ve been delaying. Purging your emails is a great way to start the season in a freshly organized way.

Call A Recruiter! If you’ve been meaning to reach out to a recruiter but haven’t yet, now is the time. Job searching on your own is an option. Hiring a recruiter with a network and a proven track record of success can be a more effective strategy. Dust off the cobwebs of your hopes and goals and employ a recruiter to help.

Create a Bio. Everyone has a story to tell. Instead of a cover letter, create a bio or a snapshot of your resume. Highlighting your experience and expertise in a tidy 1-2 paragraph document can quickly set you apart from the competition.

Once your bio is complete, polish your resume. Update any recent accolades, job experience and recent skills. Consider having a few friends in a similar industry look over your resume for feedback and ideas. Be sure your resume sparkles from top to bottom.

Update your networking. Ditch the old pitch. Consider your brand. Spring clean all the ways you used to network and invite in new and improved ways to grow your circle.  Attend that networking night you’ve had your eye on. Invite a mentor to coffee. Out with the old. In with the new. Spring is almost here!
